About this Workshop
This workshop is designed to shift you from shooting in semi-manual modes to full manual mode, allowing you to have more control over your camera and creativity.
By the end of this course, you will have the foundation needed to delve into the advanced genres of photography such as portraiture, street photography, family, food, and wedding photography.

HERES WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
• Shooting in Full Manual Mode
Gain full control over your camera by mastering the exposure triangle—aperture, shutter speed, and ISO—to create perfectly balanced and intentional shots in any lighting situation.
• High Dynamic Range (HDR)
Learn how to capture scenes with extreme contrast by blending multiple exposures, ensuring all the details in both shadows and highlights shine through.
• Panning
Master the art of motion photography by using panning techniques to create dynamic, motion-filled images with sharp subjects and beautifully blurred backgrounds.
• Light Painting
Unlock your creativity with long-exposure techniques that let you “paint” with light, turning night photography into a playground for your imagination.
• Manual Focusing
Refine your precision by learning how to focus manually, giving you the ability to nail focus in challenging conditions or for artistic control.
• Using Flash Effectively (Front and Rear Curtain Sync)
Understand how to use on-camera or off-camera flash to enhance your photos, including front and rear curtain sync for creative effects in motion photography.
• Long Exposures
Dive into long-exposure photography to capture dramatic effects like silky smooth water, light trails, and stunning starry skies.
• Advanced Composition Techniques
Elevate your images with advanced compositional rules, layering techniques, and visual storytelling methods to make your work stand out.
• Working in Dynamic Situations
Learn how to adapt and think on your feet in fast-paced or unpredictable environments, ensuring you capture the shot no matter the challenge.
What to bring with you
- Your camera, regardless of brand and model (DSLR or Mirrorless)
- Spare batteries and a charger
- At lease 2 memory cards
- A kit lens (preferably a zoom lens that has a range of 18mm to 55mm
- A telephoto or portrait lens (eg. 70-200mm)
- 5 pictures you'd like critiqued and discussed
- Food (coffee/tea and bagels along with lunch (a selection of vegan, gluten free and non vegan options will be provided and included in the price. If you wish to bring your own lunch, please feel free to do so at your cost)
- On-camera flash (eg. speedlites)
- A sturdy tripod (if you have one. if not, dont worry...we can share)
- A cleaning kit (if you have one)
What to Expect
HOW LONG IS IT?
This is an 16 hour workshop that is either broken down into 2 full days (8hrs/day) or spread out over 4 days of 4 hours each.
DO WE GET HANDS ON?
Yes!! While there is a lot of theory involved, there will be plenty of hands on practice, with your instructor as well as in a group. over 70% of this workshop is hands on.
WHAT IF WE GET HUNGRY?
For workshops that are scheduled for 2 full days, lunch and drink will be provided along with coffee and donuts in the morning.
WHAT ABOUT AFTERWARDS?
This workshop is the stepping stone to getting you acclimatized to your camera and ready to take on more advanced workshops. Whether its for studio work or on location portraits.
