ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
This workshop is designed to shift you from shooting in semi-manual modes to full manual mode, allowing you to have more control over your camera and creativity.
By the end of this course, you will have the foundation needed to delve into the advanced genres of photography such as portraiture, street photography, family, food, and wedding photography.
- Shooting in full manual mode
- HDR (High Dynamic Range)
- Panning, light painting, metering
- Flash, histograms, long exposures
- Advanced composition techniques
Pre-requisites: You must be 100% comfortable in :
- Shooting in both priority modes
- Know the basic relationship between shutter speeds, aperture and ISO settings
- Exposure compensations
- White Balance
- Metering Types
If your current knowledge in photography does not include these pre-requisites, we highly recommend you attend the Stage 1 Digital Photography Workshop first. If you are not sure where your knowledge is at the moment, dont worry, please feel free to contact us and we will walk you through it with you.
HERE'S WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
• Shooting in Full Manual Mode
Gain full control over your camera by mastering the exposure triangle—aperture, shutter speed, and ISO—to create perfectly balanced and intentional shots in any lighting situation.
• High Dynamic Range (HDR)
Learn how to capture scenes with extreme contrast by blending multiple exposures, ensuring all the details in both shadows and highlights shine through.
• Panning
Master the art of motion photography by using panning techniques to create dynamic, motion-filled images with sharp subjects and beautifully blurred backgrounds.
• Light Painting
Unlock your creativity with long-exposure techniques that let you “paint” with light, turning night photography into a playground for your imagination.
• Manual Focusing
Refine your precision by learning how to focus manually, giving you the ability to nail focus in challenging conditions or for artistic control.
• Using Flash Effectively (Front and Rear Curtain Sync)
Understand how to use on-camera or off-camera flash to enhance your photos, including front and rear curtain sync for creative effects in motion photography.
• Long Exposures
Dive into long-exposure photography to capture dramatic effects like silky smooth water, light trails, and stunning starry skies.
• Advanced Composition Techniques
Elevate your images with advanced compositional rules, layering techniques, and visual storytelling methods to make your work stand out.
• Working in Dynamic Situations
Learn how to adapt and think on your feet in fast-paced or unpredictable environments, ensuring you capture the shot no matter the challenge.
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:
- A DSLR or Mirrorless Camera
- Whatever lens you have (zoom lens or prime)
- A tripod (if you have one)
- Memory Cards
- A notebook & pen (should you wish to take notes)
- A cleaning kit (if you have one)
- Pictures you wish to share with the class
- A pocket flashlight (if you have one)
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
This workshop is 16 hours in total. This can be broken up into 2 x 8 hour days or 4 x 4 hour days.
Do we get hands on?
While this will contain a quick refresher from the Stage 1 workshop as well as a lot of theory, 80% of this workshop will be hands on, with demos, individual and group exercises
What if we get hungry?
Coffee/tea/fresh fruit in the morning will be provided as well as a lunch
What about afterwards?
Once this workshop is done, you will then have access to advanced level studio workshops as well as a mentorship program where you will receive guidance for 2 months following the workshop.
